Ernst Knebel

Ernst Knebel was a highly decorated Generalmajor in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Ernst Knebel was seriously wounded in January 1945 and died of his wounds onMarch 1945 in PreuischEylau. He was posthumously promoted to Generalmajor.
